Drone Pilot Training Course for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS)
Please review and choose the dates of the course you wish to sign-up for here before you complete the following steps.
This course is designed to prepare you for the sUAS/Part 107 Drone Pilot Exam. It will also give you the knowledge to conduct drone operations safely, legally, and effectively. The course is conducted over 2 days in a classroom followed by up to two hours of hands-on practical training. Classes generally start at 9 am and finish at 3 PM each day. A few steps are required prior to the start of class:
1. Complete the attached Drone Pilot Course Enrollment Form. You may stop by our office prior to the class and pick up the study materials for the course. This is highly recommended.
2. You must establish an IACRA account with the FAA and obtain a Federal Tracking Number (FTN). Simply visit the FAA website and go to the link for- Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) and establish a new user file: https://iacra.faa.gov/IACra/Default.aspx. Complete the digital form to create an account and establish the FTN. The FTN will be issued automatically. The FTN number is a permanent identifier of the pilot/candidate with the FAA for all things aviation. (SAVE YOUR LOGIN AND FTN NUMBER.)
3. To schedule your FAA Drone Pilot Knowledge Certification Exam complete the below Exam Scheduling Information Form. The exam is scheduled following course completion and availability. Del Sol Aviation will register and schedule your exam with PSI LLC Testing Services, the FAA Contractor for scheduling and administering exams, using your FTN number. Del Sol Aviation staff will perform this action and submit the required exam payment. PSI requires 24 hours advance notification for scheduling, or for a change to the schedule. No shows or late arrivals run the risk of not being tested and not receiving a refund. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the 60-question test. A waiting period of 14 days is required in the event a re-take is needed. Retakes are $175.00.
Course Administration:
It is highly recommended you review the study materials prior to the start of class. Drone instruction uses the same nomenclatures, flight principals, and regulations that apply to aircraft pilots. Familiarity with the material will make study and class communications easier for you. It is imperative you bring a picture ID which shows your current physical address when checking in for the Drone Pilot Exam. If you are under the age of 18 with no identification card then your legal guardian must accompany you with proper identification. Non-US citizens must present a passport and VISA/Green Card as well.
Receiving Your Certificate:
Exam scores are immediately available upon completing your exam. You can then go to your FAA IACRA account and enter your exam results and print your temporary license to document your standing as an FAA certificated Done Pilot. Your plastic license will be mailed to you within 6 to 8 weeks. Please contact Del Sol Aviation at (505) 242-2701 or email fly@delsolaviation.com if you have any questions.
The cost of course is $1,163.43. This price includes the course, training material, FAA exam, cost of scheduling, and payment processing.
